Connect From Off-Campus
We realize that CC’s network resources are valuable to off-campus staff and students. However, with the increasing threat of viruses, worms, and hackers, it is also vital that we protect the CC network as much as possible. If you need:
Basic Email Only (no other network resources) You do NOT need to use the following instructions — you can connect to the Internet from any ISP (Internet Service Provider, such as Adelphia, Earthlink, AOL, etc.) and use our Outlook Web Access client to check your e-mail. Click Here for instructions.
Email Access for the Full Outlook Program (using Outlook instead of Outlook Express or Outlook Web Access) You will need to use VPN or Outlook over HTTP.
Network Resources (H: drive, I: drive, SCT Banner, etc.) You will need to use VPN or Web VPN.
Access to GoWest Employee Self Service You will need to use VPN or Web VPN.
Access to Tutt Library’s Databases You will NOT need to use VPN. Instead, Click Here for information on this from the Library.
VPN (Virtual Private Networking)
&
Colorado College provides a Virtual Private Networking service. VPN creates a secure “tunnel” through the Internet that your computer can use to safely access protected network resources on-campus. However, as a result of this tunneling, you can either have access to the Internet (with VPN disconnected) OR access to your network resources (with VPN connected) BUT NOT BOTH at the same time. (Otherwise you could contract a virus through the Internet, which would then travel down your VPN tunnel and infect the entire CC network.) Installation and configuration instructions:

| Click Here for Windows 95, 98, or Millennium Edition instructions. | |
| Click Here for OS X instructions (VPN is not currently available for OS 8 or 9). | |
| Click Here for instructions on mapping network drives from an off-campus connection. | |
Web VPN
&
Colorado College also provides a Web-based Virtual Private Networking service. This service creates the same secure “tunnel” that the regular VPN client does, but since it is controlled through your web browser it doesn’t impact any other applications. You can therefore use both Web VPN and internet resources at the same time. Web VPN has another advantage in that it requires no set-up (you just need your CC username and password). The trade-off is that it only works through the web interface which is more limited than full VPN functionality. For full instructions, please Click Here.
