Do you use a high-speed Internet Service Provider (ISP) like Qwest DSL, Adelphia cable, or Sprint broadband to connect to the Internet from home or off-campus? Do you frequently travel and use Microsoft Outlook to check email? Do you need access to your H: or I: drives while home? Do you use a dial-up server other than CC’s modem pool, like AOL? If you answered “yes” to any of these, you’ll want to start using Colorado College’s Virtual Private Networking server, or VPN.
VPN provides secure access to the internal CC network from off-campus, including H: and I: drives, the new SCT Banner software, and other protected information. VPN access creates an encrypted “tunnel” through the Internet to CC, allowing the College to provide CC people with secure and reliable access to the internal network from off-campus. VPN works whether you are using dial-up access or high speed options like DSL, cable modems, etc., and it works worldwide, regardless of how you connect. (You do not need VPN if you dial directly into CC’s modem pool.)
If you’d like to install and use VPN, the first step is to Click Here and download the installation file "vpn4.6darwin.dmg" to your desktop and double click it. After a moment, the drive "CiscoVPNClient" should be mounted on your desktop – double click it.
The following window should pop open – double click "Cisco VPN Client.mpkg" to start installing VPN.

Go through the standard pre-install process for OS X. When prompted, select Macintosh HD as the destination, and click "Upgrade" to being the installation.
If you are not logged in as an administrator, you will need an administrative username and password to go through with the installation.

After a few moments of installing files and optimizing your Hard Drive, you should see the following message:

Click "Close." You are now ready to being configuring the VPN Client. To start, find the "Macintosh HD" icon on your desktop and double click it.
Select "Applications" and then double click "VPNClient" to start the program (you might want to drag VPNClient down to your dock if you plan to use VPN often).

Once the application is open, click "New" to create a new connection entry.

Click Here to get the "Host", "Name", and "Password" to complete the configuration shown below. Once you’ve done so, click "Save"

Now there should be a connection entry called "coloradocollege." Make sure it is highlighted, and then click "Connect." It will ask you to enter your CC user name and password — once you’ve done so, that’s it! You’re connected via VPN and can access network resources just as if you were on campus!
