ResNet Computing Guide

Welcome to Colorado College from Information Technology Services (ITS)!

This guide discusses computing policies, gives instructions for connecting to the Residential Network (ResNet), and tells you what services ITS offers. If you have any suggestions, problems or computer-related questions, call the Help Desk (x6449, or 719-389-6449 from off-campus) for assistance, and the staff there will point you in the right direction. We look forward to helping you!

Virus/Worm Alert!

Please make sure your Windows-based computer is patched with all critical Windows Updates and has the latest virus protection installed before plugging it into the network. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to patch your Windows computer.

Your Account
Your username and password were mailed to you over the summer, and you need those to set up your computer on ResNet. If you don’t have that information, come to the Help Desk with your Colorado College ID card (the Gold Card), and the staff there will tell you your username and help you reset your password.

Virus Protection
Before you can connect your computer to the network, you must have current and up-to-date virus protection. You must also update your operating system with the latest patches and fixes. You may get a free copy of Symantec AntiVirus on the network (download it or connect to the “shareware” folder on STUDENT1), or pick up a CD from the Help Desk. See this Web Page for details.

ResNet
Every residence hall on campus is “wired” to the CC network, with jacks in each room. To connect to on-campus resources, you need a computer with a network card, as well as a patch cable (also known as a network cable or Ethernet cord). To get on the Internet, you must register your network card’s address in the College’s DHCP/DNS tables. See this Web Page for more information.

“TigerNet” Wireless Network
You can use a Macintosh with AirPort running OS X or a PC with a LEAP-compatible wireless card to connect to CC’s wireless network almost anywhere on campus. See this Web Page for a list of cards we support as well as instructions on configuring wireless. A link at the bottom lists other LEAP compatible cards.
