Do you use a high-speed Internet Service Provider (ISP) like Qwest DSL, Adelphia cable, or Sprint broadband to connect to the Internet from home or off-campus? Do you frequently travel and use Microsoft Outlook to check email? Do you need access to your H: or I: drives while home? Do you use a dial-up server like AOL? If you answered “yes” to any of these, you’ll want to start using Colorado College’s Virtual Private Networking server, or VPN.
VPN provides secure access to the internal CC network from off-campus, including H: and I: drives, the new SCT Banner software, and other protected information. VPN access creates an encrypted “tunnel” through the Internet to CC, allowing the College to provide CC people with secure and reliable access to the internal network from off-campus. VPN works whether you are using dial-up access or high speed options like DSL, cable modems, etc., and it works worldwide, regardless of how you connect.
If you’d like to install and use VPN, the first step is to Click Here and download the installation file (save it to your hard drive and then run the file "vpnwin2kxp.exe" from there.
You will see the following message, click "OK":
The self-extractor will run, just click "Unzip"
When the installation wizard comes up, click "Next", read through the license agreement, select "I accept the license agreement," and then click "Next" again:
Let it install to the default folder, and click "Next." The install may take some time, since in addition to installing the software, it will also configure itself to connect to CC. After a few moments, you should see the screen stating that the install was successful. Click "Finish":
After you’ve clicked "Finish", select "Yes" at the following screen to reboot your computer. You must do this step for the installation to complete:

Once your computer starts back up, click the "Start" menu, hover your mouse over "All Programs," find and hover your mouse over "CCVPNConnector," and then select "VPN Client." This will start the software:

When the CC VPN Connector starts up, you should notice it already has an entry for "ColoradoCollege." Just click "Connect" in the upper left corner:
NOTE: if you do not see an entry for Colorado College, click "New" and then use the VPN cofiguration information to create the connection entry.

When requested, input your username and password to authenticate to the network. Once you see the following screen you are ready to use network resources! (Remember that, while VPN is connected, you will not have access to the Internet.)

You’ll notice that you now have a padlock in the locked position in your System Tray (bottom right corner of your screen). This is an indication that you are currently connected via VPN.

*Now that you’re connected, Click Here for instructions on accessing your network drives from an off-campus connection.
To disconnect from VPN and regain Internet access, right-click the VPN icon (locked yellow padlock) in your system tray and select "Disconnect":

Once you disconnect, the icon should change from being in a locked position to an unlocked position:
