Connect to wireless on Windows XP

The Colorado College wireless network uses the WPA2 protocol with AES encryption and PEAP authentication - your wireless card will need to support all these protocols in order to connect (most newer wireless cards are just fine). Instructions are as follows:

1) WPA2 patch for Windows.

Before you can connect to the CC wireless network with Windows XP, you will need to install the WPA2 compatibility patch. If you haven’t done so already, download and install the patch from the link below, then reboot your computer and proceed with the remaining steps.

2) Your wireless card will detect available networks. Click the “Wireless networks detected” bubble.
Note: If you don’t see the bubble, you can also click the small wireless network icon in the system tray.

3) Select the “tigernet2″ network and then click “Change advanced settings.”

4) Click the “Wireless Networks” tab.

5) In the Wireless Network Connection Properties box, click “Add” to add and configure a preferred network.

6) Enter the Network name as “tigernet2″, set Network Authentication to “WPA2″, and set Data Encryption to “AES.”

7) Once these are set, click the “Authentication” tab.

8) Select “Protected EAP (PEAP) from the “EAP type” dropdown list.

9) Select “Properties.”

10) First, UNcheck the box labeled “Validate server certificate.” Then make sure “Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)” is selected in the “Select Authentication Method:” section and then click “Configure…”

11) UNcheck the checkbox labeled “Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain, if any).” Then click on “OK” for each of the open properties boxes (3).

12) After a moment, you’ll see a bubble pop up in the lower right corner asking you to“Click here to select a certificate or other credentials…” Click it.

13) In the box which comes up, enter your Colorado College username and password. Enter “coloradocollege” in the “Logon domain” field and click “OK”.

14) You will once again be greeted with the wireless connection bubble. This time, it will say “Click here to process your login information for the network tigernet2″ Click it.

15) Almost done! You’ll see a window asking you to validate our security certificate. Click “OK” to proceed.

16) One last time, you’ll see the wireless network connection bubble, this time congratulating you on your victory connecting!

Registering the Network Card:
The first time you open a web-browser after configuring your wireless card, you will be prompted to register the adapter’s Ethernet address (if you’ve already registered your wired connection, your wireless connection was registered at the same time so you don’t need to do this). Just follow the on-screen instructions to register.

If you are having problems connecting, contact the Help Desk at x6449 or HelpDesk@ColoradoCollege.edu for assistance.
