Setting up an Airport Wireless Connection on Mac OS X
Macintosh computers running OS X (v 10.1 or higher) can now connect to Colorado College’s official wireless network using Cisco LEAP authentication. This document describes the setup process, step-by-step. Colorado College supports wireless networking based upon the IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN standard using Cisco access points running encryption and LEAP Authentication.
NOTE:
Cisco LEAP support is only offered on AirPort cards with firmware version 3.0 or higher. Older AirPort cards can be upgraded by Clicking Here to download the latest version.
Connecting to Colorado College’s Wireless Network:
Be sure the AirPort feature is turned on. This can be done at the top of the Finder by clicking on the blue highlighted icon:

Once the AirPort is on and the computer is in the area of the wireless network, click on the same icon as above to open the following menu:

ColoradoCollege should be listed as a selection. Once selected, the pop-up window below will appear . Click on the up/down arrow that is currently listing “Password.”

Select LEAP.

Enter “ColoradoCollege” in the “Closed Network Name:” and then enter your username and password in their respective locations:

Once authenticated, the wireless icon will show the strength of the signal from the wireless access point. At this point, access to the network will be the same as a hard-wired connection.
Registering the Network Card:
Before you can gain Internet access using your AirPort card, you must register the adapter’s Ethernet address (if you’ve already registered your wired connection, your wireless connection was registered at the same time so you don’t need to do this). Just open up your web browser and go to a website - you will be redirected to the registration page. Then follow the directions to register.
Troubleshooting:
If you fail to connect to the wireless network after following these instructions, check the following items:
- Make sure that you are in a location where The Colorado College Wireless LAN is deployed. It covers most but not all areas of campus.
- Double check the spelling of each field in your profile, and check the spelling of your username and password.
- Ensure that your wireless NIC is installed correctly and that it uses an up-to-date driver.
If you are still having problems connecting, call or email the Help Desk at x6449 for assistance.
