Switch from LEAP (old) to PEAP (new) wireless on Windows XP

The new Colorado College wireless network uses WPA2 encryption with PEAP authentication – if you’ve used the Colorado College network in the past, it is set up to use WEP encryption with LEAP authentication. Before proceeding with the new setup, we’ll first need to remove the old configuration.

To do this, you will need to configure your wireless card to be managed by Windows.

Unfortunately, there is no standard way to do this – it varies according to the model of wireless card you have. We’ve included steps below for the most common models of wireless card and driver version. It is likely you have a different card or different version of the software, but the steps should be similar – we recommend you open the wireless management utility for your card and try to find a similar checkbox to the ones seen below in order to give control of your card back to Windows. If you’re having trouble, the Help Desk will happily assist you – contact us at x6449 or helpdesk@coloradocollege.edu.

WPA2 patch for Windows.

Before you can connect to the new CC wireless network with Windows XP, you will need to install the WPA2 compatibility patch. Before disconnecting from the old network, go ahead and download and install the patch from the link below, then reboot your computer and proceed with the remaining steps.
