Adding Network Printers on Windows 2000

Colorado College makes its lab printers available on the network for anyone’s use. You can even print to a lab printer from a dorm room. Please be aware of where you are printing, however. The College wastes thousands of pages of paper every Block, and it is up to each of us to conserve our resources. To set up a printer on Windows 2000:

  1. Go to the Start Menu, then up to Settings and over to Printers.

  2. Double-click the Add a Printer icon. When the welcome screen appears, click Next.

  3. When asked if your printer is a local or network printer, select Network printer. (A local printer is one plugged directly into the back of your computer with a USB or printer cable. A network printer is one plugged into a wall jack with a network cord.)

  4. At the next window, select the button Find a printer in the directory, and then click Next.

  5. In the Name box, type part of the printer name (e.g., “Tutt”), and click Find Now. Double-click on the printer you want to add in the list at the bottom (ex. “TuttFirstFloor” or “TuttBasement”).

  6. Choose whether you want that printer to be your default, and click Next.

  7. At the summary screen, make sure the information is correct, and click Finish.
