Adding Network Printers on Windows Vista (Faculty and Staff)
Colorado College makes its lab printers available on the network for anyone’s use. You can even print to a lab printer from a dorm room. Please be aware of where you are printing, however. The College wastes thousands of pages of paper every Block, and it is up to each of us to conserve our resources. To set up a printer on Windows Vista:
- Go to the Start Menu, then click on Control Panel.

- Click on the “Printer” link under “Hardware and Sound.” – If you see a different screen you are most likely viewing the Control Panel under classic view and will need to click on the “Printers and Faxes” link.

- On the next window you will see the printers currently installed on your computer. Since you are adding a new printer, click on “Add a printer.”

- At the next window, select “Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer” and click on “Next.”

- A list of easily available printers will show up, but you will most likely need to print to a printer that is not selected, so click on “The printer that I want isn’t listed” and then “next.”

- We want to find the printer we’re looking for, so select “Find a printer in the directory, based on location or feature” and click on “next.”

- As an example we’re going to look for the Tutt first floor printer. In the Name field just put in “tutt” (it will search for any printer with “tutt” in it’s name) and click on the “Find Now” button. A list of printers will show up in the result field and you may have to browse through the printers using the slide bar on the right-hand side. Once you have found the printer that you wish to add – and in this case “tuttfirstfloor” – select that printer and then click on “OK.”

- The printer will now be installed and added to your computer. If you wish to make this the default printer you would want to check the box next to “Set as the default printer,” and click on “Next” – if not, just leave that box empty and click on “Next.”

- At the following screen it will tell you that you successfully added the printer. If you wish you can test your connection to that printer by trying to print a test page, but all you need to do is click on “Finish” and you have now completed the process of adding a printer to your Vista computer!
