Weatherbug is a popular program that allows you to continually monitor the weather through a utility in your system tray. However, the free version is ad-supported. This Adware may cause your computer to run much more slowly, and will also take up valuable network bandwidth. The Help Desk recommends that you remove Weatherbug from your computer. |
How do you know whether or not you have Weatherbug? If you see this small icon in your system tray (next to the time in the lower right corer of the screen:

Or the following icon on your desktop:

Then you have Weatherbug and should remove it. (Note that if you installed Weatherbug along with AOL Instant Messenger, this process will NOT remove AIM from your computer) The removal process is quite simple:
Click "Start" and then select "Run":

Type "control panel" and click "OK":

Select "Add/Remove Programs" from the list of control panel options:

Scroll down the list of programs until you find "WeatherBug" and then click "Change / Remove":

Weatherbug will attempt to save itself, just click "Next":

Once again, it will try to stop you from uninstalling. Check the "Toss WeatherBug!" box and click "Next":

You will see the following page pop up. Ignore the ads and click on the "x" in the upper right to close the window.
*NOTE* you will notice that, although Weatherbug has been uninstalled, a utility called "MySearch" that comes bundled with Weatherbug (and is also Adware) remains on your computer.

While we’re at it, let’s get rid of MySearch as well. When you’ve closed the above window, you should be back at the add/remove programs list. If you do not see it, refer to the above instructions to find out how to get it back.
Find "WeatherBug Compnaion - powered by MySearch" and click "Change/Remove":

Just like WeatherBug, MySearch will try to save itself. Tell it that, "Yes" you are sure you want to remove it:

It will notify you that it will uninstall after the next reboot — click "OK":

That’s it! Now reboot your computer and WeatherBug will be gone.
*NOTE* The Help Desk also recommends running a scan to clean up any adware or spyware you may have. Click Here for instructions on performing a spyware scan.
