How to configure automatic updates on your Windows XP computer

It’s important to configure your computer to automatically download and install critical updates on your computer to ensure you have the latest protection against potentially harmful worms and viruses. It’s easy to configure and you can schedule the updates to run while you’re sleeping so it doesn’t interfere with your use of the computer.

First, right click the "My Computer" icon (if you don’t see it on your desktop, it will be in your "Start" menu) and select "Properties":

Select the "Automatic Updates" tab, then select the first radio button "Automatic: (recommended) and set it to automatically download and install updates every day at 3:00 AM (or whatever time you prefer).
