How to remove an AntiVirus program from your Windows computer


Before you install your free copy of Symantec AntiVirus, it’s important to make sure you have uninstalled all other virus protection programs from your computer — otherwise, the two programs will interfere with each other and may cause other problems as well.

* If you have a Macintosh, contact the Help Desk at x6449 for assistance uninstalling your current virus protection program.

To uninstall your AntiVirus program in Windows 2000 / XP:

Click the "Start" menu and select "Run"

type "control panel" and hit enter:

Select "Add or remove programs":

Scroll down until you find the program you want to install and click "Remove" (it may be McAfee, Norton Antivirus, Norton Internet Security, PC-Cillin, or another program. In this example, it will be Symantec AntiVirus:

To complete the uninstallation fully, restart your computer. At this point, you are now ready to install your new AntiVirus program.
